The Non-Millionaire’s Guide To Living In Malibu

Malibu is widely known as the place where the rich and famous settle down. But what about the rest of us who want to experience the heavenly Malibu coast? You don’t have to be a millionaire to enjoy the “27 Miles of Scenic Beauty” that is Malibu. In fact, you can start by finding plenty of reasonably-priced Malibu apartments available for rent. Once you’re living here, there are actually plenty of great things to do without breaking the bank.

The Great Outdoors and Your Malibu Apartment

The reason people enjoy living in Malibu so much is because of the serene and relatively untouched natural beauty. Not surprisingly, most of the best activities near Malibu apartments involve being outside. So if you’re not an outdoorsy person, this may not be the right city for you!
Here are some of my favorites:

  1. Sunset Stroll at El Matador State Beach
  2. This isn’t quite a “secret” location as much as it used to be, but the beauty of this beach can’t be beat. Don’t believe me? Stop for a visit and you’re sure to see models posing among the rock formations on the shoreline. What makes this spot so unique is the way the setting sun casts the most awe-inspiring lighting onto the water and surrounding beach. Being at El Matador at certain times can feel very surreal. The tide washes up at the foot of rock caves and eloquent arches. It’s best to visit here about 90 minutes before the sunset with a picnic blanket to relax and enjoy the amazing view.

  3. Tour Pepperdine’s Campus
  4. Pepperdine University is nestled into the hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s consistently voted one of the most beautiful campuses in America. Its sprawling green lawn melts perfectly into the clear blue ocean. Enter the campus and you can experience some of the most spectacular million dollar views for free. Panoramic views from the campus can easily help you to forget all your troubles. Alumni Park in particular is a great place to spend some time with an unobstructed view of the ocean. One can only wonder how great it must be to attend school at a place like this.

  5. Beach Day at Zuma Beach
  6. Zuma Beach is probably the best place to spend the day for Malibu apartment renters. Street parking is free and usually plentiful. Zuma is known for its wide and flat beach front. This offers plenty of room for all to enjoy the sunshine. It’s also famous because scenes from Baywatch where often filmed there. As an added bonus, you can splash and swim with confidence knowing that the water is among the cleanest along the West Coast due to tidal currents. Bring your friends and family to enjoy the beach, just be sure to leave any alcohol at home because there are strict rules prohibiting consumption.

  7. Surf the World Famous Malibu Breaks
  8. For many, Malibu is a prime surfing destination. Living in any Malibu apartments includes the ability to roll out of bed in the morning and head straight to the beach to surf. Some of the more famous surf spots include Zuma Beach, Surfrider beach, and other spots located between Malibu Lagoon and the Malibu Pier. You can get a great deal on renting a surfboard or taking a lesson at Malibu Surf Shack. They are more than happy to assist beginners and veterans alike.

  9. Chow Down at Lily’s Burritos
  10. For those renting Malibu apartments, no day is ever quite complete without a stop at Lily’s Burritos. Located about half a mile from Zuma beach, Lily’s is known for their amazing breakfast burritos as well as any other type of burrito you can imagine. They use traditional flavors and have stayed true to their roots over the years. You can still see Lily there making each and every burrito with love and attention. Lily’s is a Malibu mainstay that shouldn’t be missed!

In short, it’s very possible to find Malibu apartments and live in Malibu without being a millionaire. The best things to do in the area are free and involve enjoying the famously beautiful weather. These are things you should be doing anyway!

If you still can’t find a Malibu apartment in your budget range, consider finding an apartment in Woodland Hills instead. It’s only a 20 minute drive from Malibu, but rent prices are more than 50% less expensive. That way, you can still enjoy all that Malibu has to offer!
