California State University Northridge (CSUN) - Quick Fact Guide


Students looking to live in apartments near CSUN usually gravitate toward areas such as Northridge, Warner Center, Woodland Hills, and Reseda.

While these areas are close enough to campus to commute easily by bus, nothing beats the freedom and convenience of owning your own car. Exploring Los Angeles without a car is not exactly ideal, as public transportation is notoriously sub-par.


Located in the middle of the San Fernando Valley, you can expect year-round sunshine. Although summer temperatures have reached as high as 110 degrees in the past, the weather is pleasant throughout the other seasons, with winter temperatures rarely going below 50 degrees.

Rain is also a rare occurrence, which allows you to enjoy the numerous outdoor hikes throughout the Valley and LA area without having to worry about getting wet.


Northridge is well-known throughout the San Fernando Valley to be a relatively safe area. Surrounding neighborhoods such as Woodland Hills the Warner Center are very safe as well. But please keep in mind that you are responsible for your own safety so always make smart decisions!

Northridge Fashion Center

If you like shopping, this is the place to be! With over 170 stores, it's actually a very large shopping center. Due to it's close proximity to apartments near CSUN, its a great place to pickup a new outfit or even kill some time.

Westfield Topanga Mall and Village

If you're willing to travel a little further, you can reach the Westfield Village and Topanga Mall. The mall dwarfs the Northridge Fashion Center with it's 350+ stores. You can shop for hours and never go in the same store twice. Just try not to get lost!

Nearby the Topanga Mall is the Westfield Village, which completed construction in 2016. The Village is an outdoor shopping center that features a Costco, 24 Hour Fitness, and numerous restaurants and fashion boutiques.

AMC Promenade 16

This movie theater is a state of the art theater featuring IMAX and 3D viewing options. It's a great place to see a movie premiere, to spend a Saturday night, or to catch an afternoon matinee. The theater is located in Woodland Hills, so is a short drive from apartments near CSUN.


If you're looking for outdoor activities, the beach is where its at! Depending on where your apartment is near CSUN, you can reach Malibu beach in as little as 25 minutes. The only real downside is that you'll need a car to get there unless you are willing to pay for an UBER or lyft.

Santa Monica

For those who want to leave the San Fernando Valley, the city of Santa Monica is a bustling beach-side community about 40 minutes away. Here you'll find some of the trendiest people with high-end shops. You can also visit the beach here or take a walk on the world-famous Santa Monica pier.
